So I saw netplay about a year ago and decided to join, because multiplayer from the comforts of my home? Heck yes. I played a few matches, got bodied, left. Since then, I had only played versus CPUs alone in my house because I didn't have any means to got to any tournaments in my region. Every time I played against my good friend who DID go to tournaments, noatter how good I did against the CPUs that day, I would get bodied by him. So what was missing? I knew every tech, I could solidly preform wave shines, l-canceled every move, knew to optimal DIs, but I still lost. Why? Well, I soon came to realize that when playing against CPUs, all I did was subconsciously memorize their patterns and punish the same way every match. Since their shield game was way to good for me to compete with, I just stuck to reading and punishing with forward smashes from a safe distance. Why was this bad? BECAUSE NO ONE PLAYS LIKE A CPU. Yes, it's important to learn to adapt to a play style, but humans, unlike CPUs, will adapt to you adapting, forcing you to adapt again, and making the game the beautiful piece of art that it is. So, to any basement dwellers who don't go to tournaments, play Anther's Ladder. Even if you get bodied. You'll learn much faster than you think you will. Soon, you'll learn more necesary strategies, why top players do what they do, and you'll finally be good at the game. Long live Anther's!
