Help! My controller is inputting random down-left inputs on my controller forcing me to down smash in matches!
Hey SmashLadder, Myougi here.
For awhile now, Dolphin has been having issues with polling controller inputs, but not in the way a lot of people think. On many Windows systems, Dolphin is dropping inputs entirely due to the way Dolphin polls libUSB devices (Your adapter).
To put it simply, other USB-peripherals are taking the focus of libUSB, making Dolphin temporarily lose the ability to use them. This results in random down-left inputs you normally see when you unplug your controller with a game running.
So what does this mean?
Randomly in matches, your controller will input down-left inputs on the main stick and the c-stick, forcing your character to down-smash and crouch. In previous versions of Dolphin (before dolphin-5-0-321), dolphin would entirely drop the inputs, and it was hardly noticeable because inputs weren't "replaced" by seemly random down-left inputs.
How can this be fixed?
Right now, there isn't a clear answer. This is not so much of a Dolphin issue, and more of a Windows issue because of the nature of libUSB. Currently, the best ways to work around this issue is to do the following:
- Make sure your drivers are up to date.
- Completely disconnect any USB peripherals you are not using on your computer. This includes, but is not limited to Keyboards, Headsets/Headphones, Mice, Soundcards, etc.
- Launch and run Zadig once every time you boot Windows.
Launching Zadig is currently the only known way to temporarily fix the issue, but making sure your drivers are up to date and any excess USB-peripherals are unplugged could completely fix the issue for you.
If you are still having this issue after following these steps, please report your experiences with the issue on the Dolphin bug reporting website. Create an account, then click the 'Edit' button on this page to add on any information you can provide. The sooner we can find out exactly what is causing this issue, the sooner it can be fixed.
Please share this PSA around and let anyone who is experiencing this issue know exactly what's going on.
Thanks, Myougi.
