Basically, I have one major problem with the new dolphin build we are using, and it is probably only affecting me.
I can't play it. Netplay simply does not work.
What's the Big Deal?
So here's what happens. Whenever I am connected to a user, it shows my ping as being around 50ms. Pretty normal, expected. Then, when the buffer is set and emulation starts, the ping increases straight to the hundreds range. If I increase the buff to compensate. the ping increases as well, so I have it around like 500ms if I decided to max it to the point I know it shouldn't lag. Now, if I set the buff around just 1, the ping goes back to normal. After consulting with some of my friends on here, they think it's my internet, yet, I was able to play just fine on previous builds.
This happened because the new Dolphin has some new features that make the emulator better, no point in disproving that it doesn't. These changes, however, also include netplay, and they reworked the way buffering is set up. I believe what is happening is that it is requesting inputs per frame too fast for my internet to catch up and as a result, slows down the emulation to prevent desyncs. Too much information at too fast of a rate. While the previous dolphin can handle my internet just fine and any of my games on consoles can handle online as well, Dolphin 5.0 can't.
What this means is that I am screwed until a new update fixes it to where I can play netplay like I use to, or if some guy ends up making a service or modification that allows me to be able to not lag for some reason. I basically can't play matches with other members of the site, which is seriously demotivating because I absolutely love Smash Netplay. I have played so many games in both Project M and Melee online. While I understand this update is what everyone wanted and it is for the best, I simply reject it. It's ridiculous that I can play online on the previous build, but not on the newest one.
Now some may say that I should just upgrade my internet. I would love to but the area I live in is... disappointing when it comes to internet speeds. I also can't play on campus because it hates dolphin trying to connect to other ip addresses that aren't registered as being okay and official. I hope I will be able to play again. Maybe Melee Online will save me and force me to do lewd things to it in exchange for better online play, I don't know. I just want to play fast Smash, dammit.
For hilarity, here's my internet speed. Don't judge.
