I suck at Smash 4, and here's why

Since I joined Anther's Ladder, I haven't won a single ranked match, and I've only won two friendly matches.  In almost every ranked match, I didn't win a single game.  All I want is to escape Bronze rank, but it seems like I can't and won't improve, and it's frustrating as hell.

However, I have noticed some bad habits of mine, and finding my issues is the first step to my improvement.  Here is a detailed list of reasons why I suck at Smash 4:

  1. For whatever reason, I always drop my shield when I'm getting jabbed.  I don't know why, but it never occurs to me that the opponent is going to use the finishing part of the jab to get a multihit.
  2. I can't deal with shield pressure.  I play Villager, and I know that neutral air is a great OoS option, but I still always seem to get hit or grabbed after I drop shield or roll out of whatever they're pressuring me with.
  3. I sit in shield way too much.  Often times I'll run away from the opponent and shield, and then I just end up getting grabbed and combo'd to oblivion.
  4. I don't know what to do when my opponent is at the ledge while I'm trying to recover.  A lot of the time I'll get scared and drop down to try to jump back up and fair them, but sometimes I miss and I get killed because I regrabbed the ledge.
  5. I can never land a grab.  Even when I try to get a read off of a Lloid Rocket, I always miss and end up getting punished because Villager's grab is SO DAMN LAGGY.
  6. My airdodge and tech timing is off.  Whenever I'm about to get hit with an aerial and try to airdodge, I always mistime it and get hit, and when I'm trying to recover, even though I SWEAR I mashed the shield button, I always get stagespiked and either barely miss getting killed or just fly straight into the blast zone.
  7. My mindset is probably what hinders me the most.  I always go into a match thinking "I suck, because I've never won a ranked match, so I'm going to lose this match."  Whenever I get combo'd, I panic, because my opponent already racked up a ton of damage on me and I never think I'll be able to come back.  Even when I think to myself "I can still win," my opponent KOs me and all my hope drains away again.  I don't know what to do to stop this.

I really want to improve, so I really want to find a way to fix all of these problems.  I'd love it if someone could help me not suck at this game and help me improve my defeatist mindset.

It seems that you're definitely familiar with what habits you are having trouble forming. Maybe take some time off a little and go upintoyourmindpalace? Watch some recent videos of others who play your character and see what they do. Sometimes it's just not meant to be when matches don't go our way, and the best thing about those are getting whooped... because it always means you have much more to learn. However you learned what you did, you learned it, right? It's just a matter of time before you absorb something new, I just think it's a matter of how you go about it. For example playing with some friends that are nice/neutral that can offer honest advice, asking a top player in your region for a friendly/advice after friendlies, watching videos, etc.

Most of your problems seem to be coming from (kinda harsh moment inc) poor overall game knowledge, the best thing to do is watch YouTube. I've personally been playing since Dec 2014, and most of my game understanding, has come from watching as many guides as I could, but not all of it obviously, This is around 2 months after your post, so please write back to me on any progress for I would love to help as much as possible!

I feel you. I only got this game a couple of days ago, but it feels ultimately hopeless to try to win...

Villager is all about mind games. Try to use the Lloid Rocket to stop your opponent from rolling back then try to predict a spot dodge or roll

All you have to do is be patient see what your opponent does after you do a specific thing and then try to act accordingly
